PriorCopy
Shopify keeps no version history for your products. When an app, an import or a mistake rewrites a description, the original is gone. The activity log records that something changed — never what it said.
This app exists because of a specific morning. An AI SEO tool rewrote the descriptions on roughly 480 products in a single pass. There was no undo in the app, no version history in Shopify, and no restore point that support could reach. The app had been removed from the App Store while still installed, holding the only copy of the original text.
What it does differently
Shows you the words, not just the fields
Other tools tell you a description changed and put the old and new side by side. For six hundred words rewritten by an AI, that is two walls of text and no answer. PriorCopy diffs prose the way a person reads it — inline, word by word — so you can see the three words that actually moved.
Tells you what it cannot restore
Every backup tool has limits. Most discover them to you mid-incident. PriorCopy shows a coverage report for your store before you pay: what is protected, what is not, and what would have to be redone by hand.
It also restores in place wherever it can, so your product IDs survive. Where a record must be re-created, it gets a new Shopify ID — which silently breaks Google Merchant Center, Meta catalogs, historical order line items and anything else keyed to the old one. PriorCopy hands you a table naming exactly what needs repointing, and says which records it cannot bring back under their original IDs before you approve the restore.
Reads its own backups back, and shows you every check
A backup that has only ever reported success is a hope. Every run is read back out of storage and checked against what was stored: that each version is still there, that its bytes still hash to what was recorded, and that it still describes a record a restore could write back. Once a week that check covers every stored version rather than a sample.
The app keeps the whole history of those checks and shows it to you — failures included, in the same list as the passes, because a verification history with no failures in it either means nothing has gone wrong or means the page is hiding them, and you cannot tell those apart. A restore is counted the same way: nothing is reported as restored until it has been read back out of your store and compared field by field.
What it backs up
- Products and variants — descriptions, titles, SEO, options, metafields
- Collections
- Pages, blogs and blog posts
- Navigation menus and URL redirects
- Metaobjects
All of those restore in place, keeping their Shopify IDs. A restore puts back copy: variants, media, option structure and collection membership are captured and visible in the history, but are not written back, and the app says so per record before you approve anything.
What it does not back up yet
- Theme files — not backed up, and not on a near horizon. Reading them needs a protected-scope exemption from Shopify that we do not hold: we applied on 10 September 2026, and withdrew the request on 17 September 2026 because this version has no theme functionality to demonstrate. Keep making theme backups the way you already do — Shopify's own theme duplicate, or a Git-connected theme.
- Store policies — on the list for the next release.
- Metafield definitions — metafield values are backed up on every record; the definitions themselves are not yet.
- Inventory quantities — a point-in-time number, and putting last night's back would paper over a real discrepancy rather than fix one.
This list is here rather than buried because the alternative is a merchant finding out mid-incident. The app shows the same list, for your own store, before you pay.
What it does not touch
Customers and orders. Shopify already exports both to CSV from your admin. A re-created order carries a fabricated payment record and corrupts every financial report touching the period, so restoring them would be a lie. The app does not request permission to read them, which means it cannot — and your customers' personal data never reaches us.

Export your full history from the first day of your trial. No tenure requirement, no support ticket, no waiting period. If you uninstall, we email you the export before anything is deleted.
Status
